Frames

In these pictures we had to use the squares as a prop in the picture. I was wearing a shirt that had squares all over it and didn’t even think to use that more in the picture. I think they turned out alright anyway. It will just teach me next time to be aware of everything around me especially what I’m wearing.

Asymetrical vs Symetrical

Our group had trouble finding a place that we could all stand and fit together. The top picture we wanted to use the shaddow to help with the effect. The bottom picture we just tried to make it even and work with the shaddows.

Group Collaboration

I wasnt here the day that we did this porject but this is one picture that my partner was in. They had to find extreme shadows and I think they did a good job finding it. The location is good because the shade in that area is cool and them standing like that was a good idea the picture turned out good.

Artist Statement

In this portfolio I have all of the pictures that I’ve taken in my photo class my senior year. This has been one of my favorite classes especially this year and I feel that it shows in my work. I think that I have done a good job with keeping up with my assignments and taking the pictures. We have learned many things on photoshop and with the cameras. We even made this website to put all of our work up.
I have learned how to use macro on the camera, and that was really fun because it’s cool to see what things look like so close up, we don’t normally see things that way so it was interesting. Learning on photoshop is pretty fast and sometimes I get lost because there are so many things that you can do and change with your pictures. You can make your picture look completely different that it started out and if you have a vision of what you want it to look like you will most likely be able to do it with photoshop. We learned how to make ghosts and zombies, which was fun because everyone made themselves look scary and it doesn’t even look like us. We learned how to make our own paint brush in the last project we did with the lyrics. I chose my lyrics because I feel like people should be more considerate to others and how they are feeling and not just judge people. I learned a lot with that project about photoshop and about people.
I think that my favorite was either macro or the Halloween projects. I’m not sure if I have really improved or not I feel like all of my projects are ok and there is always something that can be improved. After being in this class I cant help but think of things to take pictures of and don’t believe anything I see on T.V because I know that photoshop is so easy to just fix things and make things look one way when they’re really not. I watch for things to take pictures of everywhere I go. I try to take pictures of things that I think are interesting and other people might appreciate too.

Lyrics Page

I chose the song 'What Its Like' by Everlast because every time I hear this song it gets to me. I relate to these lyrics because I constantly see these things happen around me and it’s sad because people don’t think about what they would do if they were in other peoples’ shoes, instead of just judging them without knowing them.

Issue

The issue that I chose is cancer. Cancer is something that you can’t change, you don’t choose to have it and when you do it affects everyone around you. It’s very hard on small children because they don’t understand why they have it. Some kids have to start there first day of pre-school feeling very self conscious because they have no hair. They have to be careful of everything because it’s not good for them to get sick. No germs and no sun, sometimes they have to stay in the hospital for months.
This is Hannah she had Leukemia when she was 3 years old, now she’s 11 almost 12. She’s my only sister, When this happened I was young and didn’t worry about it too much because I didn’t really know what it was. When I think about it now I realize how strong she was for being a little 40 pound girl.

Haunted Chavez

In this project we had to take pictures then edit them on photoshop. We were suppose to use the things that we learned to make ghosts, zombies, and deformed faces. I chose to just make ghosts because there my favorite. The picture is just all the ghosts that live in the back of the school in the ceramics room. I think i could have made it better if i moved everything around so that it works more, right now everything looks a little crowded. I think i did a good job on my ghosts and making the girl in the back look like part of her is falling down, like her soul or something.

Halloween

This is my ghost picture that I did on photo shop. The ghosts are me just edited so that I look like you can see through me. I didn't know how to put myself and the ghosts so that it would look like they were behind me. It was hard because I couldn't find places to put my ghosts. It makes me think of this little bridge that my grandpa and I pass by to go to the next town in Oklahoma.
This scary face was fun because we put a different picture over our face to make it look like our skin is eating away or something. The eyes are my favorite thing on this picture. It was fun doing this project.

This one is my favorite one because it looks so weird. I had to put the lips on and the eyes on top of another picture that I took. It just made me smile doing this project because everyone looks so goofy. The goal was to just make it look real but deformed.

The Scream my interpretation...

The man is screaming because there was no one around him for miles and he started seeing weird colors and things started to morph into shapes and lines that he had never seen before. The tree next to him melted and the ground started going in spirals. Then when he turns around a man with a deformed face and body is running towards him. The mans’ ear is falling off and his eye is running down his face. The lake water started to move in small circles. The grass is turning blue and black spiraling into a pit, the trees that did not melt were slowly falling into the pit. He is scared that he will also fall into this pit, and that he will also start to deform.

Creative Me

This project was an opportunity for us to put the tools we have learned to use. We were to take one of our portraits, and change it creatively using the following: selection tools, layers, adjustment layers, layer styles, blending options, paint brushes and opacity.

Adjustment Layers

In this exercise we learned about Adjustment layers. Adjustment layers allow you to add adjustments to your image on separate layers instead of directly to the image itself. This comes in handy during long complicated projects. In Photoshop every tool is specifically designed to help improve your photo. However, here we took some artistic liberties and explored adjustments creatively.

Self Portraits

For our Self-Portrait project we were to take three self-portraits. They were all to be in black and white, and they were all to capture a mood of some sort. We were also challenged to be as artistic as possible, and stay as far away from normal, cliche portraits that we see on personal pages etc. as possible. One had to use the rule of thirds as the base for the composition; One had to incorporate leading lines, and one had to be taken from a more extreme angle.
Doing this project was fun but difficult. i had a hard time telling my camera person what exactly I wanted them to do at first them I got use to it. My favorite picture is my rule of thirds. It just seems like something i would be doing because I like to sit alone sometimes. I think I did ok with these pictures I think my extreme angles could have been better, maybe in a different place or something.

Contacts sheet

This is a contacts sheet that has all of the pictures that
i have done so far. We have learned compositional tricks and these are examples of them. We used the photoshop to put all the pictures together and put all the words on it.

Compositional Trick #5 Crop

Cropping is taking out some of the picture that maybe doesn't add to your picture and just focus on your emphasis. We had to turn the picture black and white crop out some of the picture and put our names on the side of it. In this picture the emphasis is my partner.

Compositional Trick #4 Extreme Angles

Extreme angles is when you take the picture at an angle that you wouldn't normally look at someone at. Extreme angles is not having the picture right in front of the person at eye level. This picture i was on a lower level than his so I got the picture so it looks like hes a giant.

Compositional Trick #3 Macro

Macro is a setting on the camera that lets you take pictures up really close. You can take pictures with depth of field, that's when the picture has a background that is kind of blurry and it just focuses on the emphasis. Another thing is texture; texture is something that you wouldn't normally look at so close. The picture of my dead bug in a spider web is depth of field because you can see the background and it’s blurred out. The other picture is a dead cactus up really close and that's texture.

Compositional Trick #2 Leading lines

Leading lines is something that leads you to your emphasis. Your leading lines can be pretty much anything. They can be obvious or settle so you have to look more to find it. In my picture i used the rocks as my leading line up to the cool looking awnings and the bushes and the sky. I think my leading line could have got to a better emphasis.

Compositional Trick #1 Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is when you make you emphasis on a sertain place on your picture so that you look at that first them you look at the rest of the picture. This is a picture i took in my backyard. The sun would be the emphasis in this picture.
