Shutter Speed

We messed with the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. To make the light effect we used glow sticks. It took us a few trys to get them right. We had the cameras set to M for manual, in this mode we control the WB, ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed. The shutter speed is how long the camera opens to get all of the light. It works with the other two because in a dark room you need to use them to be able to see anything. Its a alternative to flash because is takes the light thats there instead of adding light.

ISO: Film Speed

ISO is the film speed. You tell the camera how much light you want to come into your picture without having to use flash. Flash can Drain out the color and light. The higher the ISO the more light your letting into your picture. This top picture is with flash and you can see it took out the christmas lights that are there.

This is ISO 5000, that makes the light very bright. ISO is using the light that is already in the picture to light up the room. The shutter opens for a longer time than the 40 that I used at the bottom.

Fill in Flash

Fill in flash helps out when the background is fine but your subject is in the shadow and you cant really see there face. You use it to make the shadow go away. The bottom picture has no flash and you can't really see his face. But on the next picture you can clearly see him and it didn't effect the background at all.

Metering

Metering measures how much light gets to come into your picture. It depends on what speed you put it on for how much light is going to be in your picture, the bigger the number the more light comes in. With metering you tell the camera whats the middle grey and it will make everything lighter lighter and everything darker darker than it really is. In the top picture I metered the computer screen which made everything else dark because the computer screen is considered middle. The second picture I metered my partners face and you can see how much lighter it made everything.
